Snow day(s) at Bryce Canyon and few more hikes
It got cold really fast and dumped 3 inches of snow!
after the first night of cold, it’s was good to have “Arctic Pac” system in the van as it kept the tanks not freezing over! It went down to 15F /-9C during the nights, so if you thinking of tent camping, check the weather!
The kids loved the snow. Rhona has a wool jacket and Kaya just loves cold weather!
The air is very dry here so try to wear natural fiber clothing as much as possible. All plastic clothing will create static and you will be getting shocked everywhere…! Just something that one does not think normally.
The only hike to a small waterfall, short and sweet on the north end of the park
Erosion happening as we were there!!
Nice and crisp day after the snow
Love these bench marks.. they are in every National Parks.
Fairyland Loop hike.. was as good as Peekaboo hike… kinda hard (if I just would learn to take it easy!!!??!!) and beautiful. Do not underestimate the hikes cause it’s only… 5 miles!!!.. as it’s dry/hot/cold/ and in elevation.
There is no one bailing you out if you bonk, so take plenty water and food with you.
Fairyland Loop
Amazing hiking.. I never thought that I would like hiking but this is good!
Recap…
We spend a week in Zion which was a bit too long, not much to do outside of the National Park and it’s kinda expensive place. We are not big in dining out or shopping so.. 4 days would have been plenty. There is a good Brew Pub that we had to check out though.
In Bryce Canyon we stayed for a week in a full hook up Bryce Canyon Pines RV park and was totally worth it.. $40 a night! They have good showers etc and tent spots. We saw quite a few rental RV’s and we think they all came from Las Vegas area that is only few hours drive away from Zion and 2 more hours away from Bryce . Great way to see it all and staying comfy.
Book your campsites early and if you want to hike Angels landing in Zion.. it needs to be booked early. Kinda wanted to do horse riding “hike” with the horses in Bryce but did not get around it. It’s $75-$100 for hours long tour. Nothing else needs to get pre organized from home really. Get your food from Walmart or local shops in Hurricane before going up the hill to Zion. For wine you need to go to State Liquor store as it is Utah!!!
We are off to Antelope Island that is just North West of Salt Lake City.. later!
