Cour d’Alene
Beauty Creek State Campground
It’s been a few weeks since we been dry camping and as we know with that comes beautiful and private spots in middle of nature and away from noice and people! Been here now for 4 days and loving north Idaho.
When we got to Spokane few weeks ago someone said to me that” what a beautiful day as the sun is shining and it’s warm!” I did not really understand why was it so special.. It is not that warm and sunny here in May usually. ;)
We are good with 50-60F and little rain here and there but it would be great to have electricity to our rig so we could run little heater inside the van ha ha! Most of the campsites are occupied by tents close by so I just need to put my big girl pants on and love my warm and dry bed!! We keep our van door open all day so we have definitely used our warm clothing in past few weeks and will for next few weeks more as we are heading closer to Canada border tomorrow.
Cour d’Alene is a lot cleaner in general than Spokane. We had great time in Spokane and do not avoid the place as outdoors are fantastic, but saw a bit too many drug users and police around the shopping malls which did leave a bit of a downer feeling of the town itself. CdA has a nice little town center with mix of new and old, a lot of construction for high rises coming up so someone else must have realized the potential of the place.
Beauty Bay
Northern shores of the lake are filled with”summer” houses squeezed on cliffside between the coastal road and the lake, everyone house has a small dock on the front. We are here a week before Memorial Day and things are just starting to ramp up for the summer and can visualize how busy this town/lake gets for the summer months.
Plenty of Brew houses…and dogs are welcome !!!
We visited small town south end of the lake, Harrison. Big cycling “one horse town”.. Harrison is on the route of Trail of the Cour d Alenes, https://thecyclehaus.com cycling route that has been build on old railway road through Idaho, from Washington State border to Montana border. They have shuttle service to bring you back to start of your ride if you want to ride it just one way etc. Close to Montana border the ride can be connected to Route of the Hiawatha https://www.ridethehiawatha.com/the-trail that is very special on its own.
Definitely something that we are coming back to do soon!!!
Rhona trail run.. 2 miles up on single track and run down little faster!!
Kids doing what they do best.. Rhona checking out wild life and Kaya eating a bully stick!
Princesses all bundled up for the night!
Tomorrow we are heading towards Glacier National Park. Going to stop in a small town of Polson, MT that is on the way. Going to break the caravan down as we are leaving Ian’s boat to storage while we go into Glazier NP. We will do the same when we go into Yellowstone NP a week after. It’s easier to maneuver the Van without the boat and less chance of getting it all dinged up.
On that note.. Rhona is running circles around me and it’s time to go for run with her before she goes through the screen door!!!! Ian has gone to ride his bike and is getting fit! Sailing season is starting for him soon.
It’s hard to believe that it’s only getting close to end of May.. we been traveling for 6 weeks and summer is starting!
