Lets talk about Ticks!
Tics are a hassle but….
Having San Diego as your home is not always as straight forward and fantastic … he he! We have lived there for nearly 20 years and during those years we have totally forgotten about pests like ticks, mosquitos, ants, horseflies etc. etc. If we saw a mosquito … go and investigate which neighbor has been collecting water into open containers…. alert for mosquito larva… call pest control (free service for mosquito control in SD!!) problem solved.. the one mosquito gone!!!
We were both brought up in an environment where these “pests” were every summer bucket list and dealt with every single year.
No drama no worries!!! ha ha!!Those were the early days.
Last year on our travels we headed north pretty early in the year and then up to the mountains where spring was starting. So .. honestly it was not before Michigan in June before we pumped into our flying “friends” and then it went nuclear! Horsefly and mosquito galore!! We did see few ticks in the mix but nothing too really worth of mention. Kids are on Bravecto chew once in 3 months and covered 100% agains ticks etc.
Well… that was then and now its … serious! First tick sightings worth of mention was in Kansas.. so few weeks ago beginning of May. Apparently winter was mild and spring came early so we were in full summer mode already beginning of May.
Ticks crawling on Rhona. Most of them dead but still hanging on.. some them still alive.. dying, some of them still making a run for it… millions!!! Most of our walks, trail running, leisure chilling is/was on grass .. short grass, tall grass, woods.. where the ticks live. And you have met Rhona who LOVES to run full tilt on all the grounds. Funny thing is that we have not seen one tick on Kaya… uhhh… her coat is longer and I think we just can not find them… I have tick comb, used it on her.. nothing !!! uhh… OK! I take it.. hehehuhhhh!?!
So… after every outing, I’m plugging 10-50 ticks off Rhona.. well you can sit there rest of the day but.. usually she or me get fed up with the ordeal, after all Bravecto will kill the ticks and no harm done to Rhona. It was really more for us that we did not have “too” many inside the van.. I have plugged few tick off Ian and I have had few but nothing to sweat over.
But.. got fed up of it all and that’s when I saw this

Rhona did not like it much in the beginning and she kept sneezing a bit but.. now .. it’s just a ritual and A WORKING RITUAL!!

I guess what I’m trying to say here… GO OUT AND ENJOY THE WOODS AND BEAUTIFUL NATURE… ticks or no ticks…
That’s why you have your pups on tick/flea meds and us humans just need to put our big girl/boy pants on and get over the hype!!
