Theodor Roosevelt National Park
Medora, North Dakota
Situated right on highway 94 in west ND
While planning our trip towards Duluth Minnesota and trying to break down our 900 mile journey there we came across this place. Had a great 2 nights and a drive around Theodor Roosevelt National Park
Little more dog friendly… just!!
The Badlands, which basically means .. land that is not useful for growing crops or cattle!
The park is split into Southern and Northern areas. We drove around the Southern one and saw a lot of Buffalo and wild horses. Area itself is not huge but very interesting.
We are still close by the Louis and Clark trail, the same trail that we saw in Washington State close to Walla Walla
Yes… people were build different back then!.. and this one does not have Apple Maps ether!! ;)
Peaceful Valley Ranch
Yellowstone, in late 1800’s and Theodor Roosevelt National Park in mid 1900’s helped to regain Buffalo numbers back from near extension. Both parks play a very important role in getting Buffalo re introduced to USA and keeping the herds healthy
Quite a few Prairie Dog Towns in the Park which kept Rhona and Kaya awake during our car tour.
Buffalo calfs were quite a lot bigger here than in Yellowstone. Spring must come here earlier! ;)
Cowboy Museum with lot of history of Horses and Cowboy Hall of Fame.. but this one is Texas Longhorn.. ha ha!
Medora town area itself is very much up and coming place. They were doing bunch of roadworks and building $500 million Roosevelt “Library”, it’s in quotes as the the building is going to be” bigger” than JFK airport ha ha! Must be a lot of books! ;)
Anyway.. right now Medora is a one horse town with a Theater ! Definitely worth of stopping if driving by.
… local Rhona run!
Our next stop is in Valley City, or just north of it in Mel Rieman Recreational Area about 10 miles north of Valley City. Nice camp site in the woods.
It’s been windy and rainy few days and we are catching up with stuff!
and of course Rhona run on a trail that was really not a trail… but we had tons of fun!
Tomorrow drive to Duluth Minnesota. Stepping into new pace of life for few weeks as Ian has 2 races on A-Cat coming up and going back to civilization.
