Traveling through Minnesota and Michigan in fast pace

Crossing Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan

Before we got into the Sailing Race agenda between Duluth MN and Caseville MI we drove approx. 900 miles from Billings Montana to Duluth Minnesota in 3 sections and stopped twice for 2 nights. First stop was Roosevelt NP and second was in Mel Rieman Rec Area. “The Kids” took it well and I was getting tired of driving.. ha ha!

A-Cat racing agenda

Ian has two sail races in 10 days and they are 730 miles (1170km) apart.

Jeremy and Rebecca took us in open arms and we had great 3 days in Duluth before heading down south towards Lake City where Ian and Jeremy raced Mrs. Hippie regatta with the A-Catamarans.

Mrs. Hippie regatta getting going! There were 5 A-Cat’s and boys had great race.

Ian and Jeremy getting ready to go out for a day of racing.

I found a great massage and haircut place and treated myself for both of them… I happened to look into a mirror in the morning for a first time for a while and there was “someone” that made me think “who ever that is looks scary and its a person who has been living in a forest for a while!!!” She needs little help!!!!

Jeremy ready to launch

Rhona supervising Ian’s prep for days racing!

Upper Mississippi where Ian and Jeremy raced. To clarify.. Lake City is on Lake Pepin that is part of Mississippi River… ha ha!!! Yes.. and we are still in Minnesota.

I always had in my mind that Minnesota is like Finland. Lots of trees and water but it has a lot more wet swamp areas in the south as well, if not knowing where I am I would take this place like south Mississippi, just the alligators are missing!!

After we left Lake City MN it’s been interesting to drive through Wisconsin Mormon country, the lush forests of south Minnesota and north shores of Lake Michigan. Got some Michigan Pasties to eat, and great hot smoked fish on the way.

Our next destination was Caseville, that is on the Thumb of Michigan (if that helps someone?!?) We stopped for a night in Saint Ignace Straits State Park campground.

State Park Campground Saint Ignace

Kaya had her swims!

Rhona had plenty squirrels to hunt!

Caseville race on Lake Huron

Ian and Jeremy were racing for 3 days and actually got to sail all the 3 days as well.. they had some thunderstorms and tons of rain thrown in to the mix and they had great time.

Rhona inspection going on!!!

Camping life!!

We did bunch of hiking with the kids in close by State Park while Ian was racing

Ian going out on the last day of racing..

Ian came first and Jeremy second on the A-Catamaran class!!

It’s been a whirlwind 2 weeks and time to head back north from the heat !!!
