Last few weeks on the road in Eastern US

It’s been a bit of a whirl wind tour last few weeks. Leaving Illinois and heading towards Camden, Maine. Few days we drove.. again.. way too many miles ending up being over 7 h days in the car. Ian is good with it, the Kids are fine with it… it’s just me who gets super tired from the driving, mentally just exhausted, not because I don’t like it.

We drove through Indiana and learned “again” that California roads are in great conditions compared to most… huge, deep pot holes on the free way, inches deep and wide cracks in the middle of the two lanes and everyone driving 75mph like on a F1 track… holy macaroni!! Ian lost a hub cap on the RV, we were rattled through our cores with the Kids in the truck… no fun! As I said I had planned TOO long driving days.. 350-400 miles every 3 days.. though it will be OK ?!?

We did have few fun stops. Lake Erie State Park, NY we met fun people, had fun hikes with Rhona and recharged “batteries”. I had a quick visit to Niagara Falls, more hiking in Taughannock Falls State Park, more driving and getting us ready for Nova Scotia weeks.

Niagara Falls were literally on our way across towards Maine so we stopped by with Rhona. Kaya has slowed down quite a lot so she was traveling with Ian in the Van and having more chilled out day. It was all worth of seeing the falls but be ready to wait in line and for a long hunt for a parking spot. It is rather badly organized operation when there are 12-14 million people visiting every year!?!? I would really recommend to take a tourbus in from outside of the park to save hours of frustration and still not getting to see what you thought you will see.. he he!!

Fast forward to more tranquil Taughannock Falls State Park @ Finger Lakes, NY State. We had 3 days camping around this beautiful spot. Heard about the Finger Lakes of NY State last year and it did not disappoint. Located really close to Ithaca ( town of Ivy League Cornell University, with stunning grounds). Area has also surprising amount of vineyards and breweries close by and plenty of people to visit all of these wonders. Definitely worth of stopping by and spend time around here!!

Buttermilk Falls in Ithaca with the Kids

So much to see and places to visit. I really though that I would have had a good touch on this trip planning already but this time our drive from SW corner to NE corner of USA has felt longer than I thought. It’s been 3200 mile drive so I guess it SHOULD have felt long … very much looking forward of getting to Canada and across to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for the summer.

We got to Camden, Maine on the 26th of May. Stored away Ian’s A-Cat and changed “the boat”to little more user friendly model.

New Kayak into the toy collection!!!

Thank you for the Smullen’s to host us in Camden and providing us with tons of laughter and Johnny for cooking us a fantastic Halibut dinner!! We shall meet again in end of September.

Towards the new adventures.. here boarding the Cat that took us from Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth Nova Scotia. We had a smooth 3h sail across the bay arrived to this….

Next Nova Scotia story…..
