Camden area, Maine
Marshall Point Lighthouse
YES ITS AS BEAUTIFUL AS YOU HAVE HEARD OFF!!!
Driving here from Vermont .. was slow.. it’s not like in Canada where the speed limits are very much enforced and driving is just slow going! Our drive here was 95% of on small roads through beautiful small villages of NW Vermont and West Maine. Top speed limit is 50 mph ( that is a lot faster than nearly anything we saw in Canada) passed tons of lakes… lakes everywhere!! It took us 4.5 h to do 140 miles.. but it was one of the most beautiful drives that we have done till now!
The Marshall Point lighthouse bell that operated for 70 years. Weighted ‘clock’mechanism that winded the “clock” lasted 4 1/2 hours, the hammer struck the bell every 20 seconds and with that sound it kept the sailors safe out sea in bad visibility weather. 1969 they got fog horn to replace the bell.
Well… I found it super interesting as Im familiar with the light house horns and sea buoy hoots but did not think.. what they used before …. Same principle different sound! And that is a seriously big bell!!
McLoons Lobster Shack in Sprucehead Island
Ian rode down to the Spurcehead Island from Camden and I brought the kids with the car. I had my first Lobster Roll and nearly flew on my ass when I saw the price but… IT WAS GOOD and worth it! The place was more than idyllic and kids approved on the Roll as well… ha ha…
We caught up with our San Diego peeps and were taken to Camden Yacht Club for” a brew”! The little ferry that took us from one side to other in the harbour was no less than San Diego YC member.. haha!! Thank you Johnny for organizing!
Camden Classic Regatta was going and our friends raced it in beautiful weather! While we had cocktails near by!! ha
Camden harbour
Camping at Camden Hills Campground, Rockport
Have been able to do some epic hiking/running on trails up in the hills from Camden. Rhona is having the best time and I’m trying to keep up with her!! ha ha
Tomorrow we are moving to Boothbay that is about 40 miles south from here on the coast.
Also this week Ian is heading to Los Angeles to race the A-Cat Nationals, driving the truck and his boat across the US of A. From North East to South West…
I’m going to stay in beautiful Maine with the Van and the kids and stay in Boothbay and then in Orr’s Island house.
Anita is coming to visit from Finland and Jen is flying in from San Diego to have some girl time with me and the Kids…
Ian is going to have boy time playing boats with his besties…
LIFE IS GOOD!
… till then….
