St. John’s and East Coast Trail

We have finally made it to St.John’s and out of the deep woods.. hehe!!! Back in the civilization and into buzz of people.. if that is good or not.. up to you! We wanted to get here for beginning of August as The Royal St.John’s Regatta is organized on Quidi Vidi Lake in St John’s. It is the oldest continuous sporting event in North America and this one was the 208th edition. It features traditional six-oared shell rowing boat race and is out and back race which include a turn in the end of the lake.

.. and to melt off all that curry we went next day to hike the Signal Hill hike.. perfect day for it as it was drizzling with rain and really windy.. no one around hiking with us!! ;)

and believe or not… Scotts involved even in this!!

Next photos are from Biscan Cove Trail that is part of The East Coast Trail.

East Coast Trail is a network of trails that run on the east coast of Newfoundland on Avalon Peninsula. All together the trail system include 25 paths that comes to 336 km/209 miles, all the paths are point to point so will need some coordinating with your “support crew”!! It is a dream for lot of avid hikers and if you are one of them and want to do this… head mid July onward timing… weather and rain will be little warmer and I would look for B&B places on the way. It is rather demanding trail and you are 100% on your own, no little cafe’s/gasoline stations to stop and refuel on a whim. … It is very easy to navigate and all the info/All Trail’s app is online, just takes some guts and smarts. Good luck! I have heard personally few people trying to complete it…

PS. if you are not good with heights this is not for you. Trail follows the coast with hundreds of feet straight cliff drops to ocean/ rocks below, few feet away from the path in most of the places.

The next photos are from the most northern trail, the Biscan Cove Trail.

Very typical trail path look in NL. Skip and hop and try to keep up with Rhona… who is usually looking back to me and wondering..”what’s keeping you???” This seriously is easy path section on the Coastal Trail.. not trying to be “drama queen” here!!!!!
