Welcome to the Wheat Country

From Lake Cascade we headed to Walla Walla and had amazing drive through Payette National Forest, tons of ski spots and winter sport possibilities. First time ever for me that there was not phone service or internet for 2 hours while driving in east Oregon. Uhhh… really thought that my phone had broken down, as I had no map I really did not know where we were heading but Ian came to rescue and gave me a paper map halfway on my “driving blind” experience. Of course I just told him off that morning that “you really should do little looking up where we really are going when taking off from campsite!!!” ha ha… My bad!!! When we got off the hills and onto Hwy 84 north my phone came to alive and I felt all safe and fuzzy again!!! ha

we got to wine tasting place and all was forgotten WHO knows where we are heading everyday!!! ha

We had a day in Walla Walla, which was not enough as there are tons of things to see and different vineyards to visit. Definitely need to come back with better time! Wines are good and people are fantastic. It’s not cheap but when is wine tasting cheap???? ( Ian managed to get me out of the town in 24h, I’m still wondering what happened there??? I guess 16 years of marriage means that he knows me a bit too well!!!)

Tiny roads between the wheat fields.. heading north of Walla Walla

We are close to the Louis and Clark trail… can you imagine… AND NO IPHONE!!!! ha

From Walla Walla north its wheat fields after wheat fields and without my little driving map on my phone… I would have turned around many times! Palouse region that we were driving through is very famous for its wheat and legume growing, tiny roads between the hills and no idea which direction the road goes next.

So we were on our way to Starbuck on Snake River. I had reserved a spot in a KOA campsite there months ago… without checking Google Earth! Ups…. yes…. UPS!!!! ALWAYS CHECK Google Earth when blindly booking campsites… ha ha!! OK, I know now! I got there first… it was tiny place in a small boat marina and nothing around… uhh…. we had a reservation for a week.. ups…. well we decided to stay over night and managed to get refund for the rest of the time. (With KOA is really difficult to get your money back if you are with in 2 weeks of your reservation. Their system is not very user friendly that way) We did go and visit Palouse Falls… Ian rode his bike and I took the kids with the car!! Then had a great evening did some laundry and Ian booked us a spot in Spokane State Park.

Palouse Falls were close to our campsite… beautiful but not for anyone with fear of heights.. uff!

Palouse River heading towards Snake River

It’s been a busy 5 days… tons of driving in manageable portions and ready to chill in a same place for a bit. Next is Spokane and Cour d’Alene area.. can not wait.
